AQUA is a volunteer organization that focuses on building community for queer and trans API residents in the DC, Maryland, and Virginia (DMV) area, which utilizes its location in the nation’s capital to help uplift voices and advocate for social justice issues through an LGBTQ+ and API lens.
AQUA strives in its mission to intentionally incorporate the following values through our collective actions as an organization to center our membership: Education, Equity & Inclusivity, Visibility, and Well-being. We aim to support our mission by providing opportunities for political advocacy, coalition building, cultural exploration, and personal development.
AQUA actively works towards:
• Providing a safe and supportive space for trans and queer API individuals to discuss the issues impacting their lives.
• Raising the visibility of QAPI people by tackling issues of race in the queer communities and homophobia in API communities.
• Engaging in campaigns that advocate for our communities on issues such as (but not limited to) immigration, sexual racism and trans exclusion.
