My main focus for the Mentoring Program would be career oriented. I have worked diligently to build a successful career and want to help others do the same. My knowledge in job hunting, career growth, and helping others assess their professional passions will be beneficial to this program. I also possess broad technical knowledge in IT and cybersecurity, and can help others transition or grow into this area if the opportunity presents itself.
 

Gem Daus (He/Him)

Public Health / Higher Ed | X | MA in Organizational Development

I have more than 20 years of experience in the nonprofit sector and public, from direct service, to program management, to executive leadership. I’ve worked for the National Council on Interpreting in Health Care (NCIHC), the Asian and Pacific Islander American Health Forum (APIAHF), the National Minority AIDS Council (NMAC), and the American Red Cross. I’ve led local-national partnerships for improving access to quality health care and increased research for Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders. I was a community liaison to the White House Initiative of Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders (WHIAAPI). I worked on the legislation that eventually led to the formation of the Asian American & Native American Pacific Islander Serving Institutions (AANAPISI) designation within the Department of Education. I have also facilitated strategic planning and board development for community-based organizations, including local health clinics and human service providers.

Law: Assistant General Counsel, NSF; formerly at FTC Office of General Counsel. Music (piano, other keyboards): Kennedy Center Opera House Orchestra, American Pops Orchestra, Gay Men’s Chorus of Washington, etc. Willing to mentor individuals interested in careers in law or the performing arts (music, theater).
